Las Flores Nierika

Las Flores Nierika

Wonderful nierika or Huichol spiritual yarn painting signed by the artist and with a description on the back that seems to say “The rocks from where the tree meets the wind.” Yarn on beeswax on wood. Recovered in Oregon.

This piece is about 6’’ x 6’’.

The Huichol people of Jalisco and Nayarit, Mexico (who self-identify as the Wixáritari) are extremely religious and practice spiritual traditions that date back hundreds if not thousands of years. Part of their spirituality involves leaving artistic offerings at religious sites and creating vibrant depictions in beads or yarn of shamanic visions and elements important to their beliefs and their reverence for the natural environment.
