Incredible large and heavy palo fierro (ironwood) pelican sculpture with amazing carved feet on the base. Found in Oregon.

This piece is approximately 12’’ tall and in excellent condition.

Palo fierro carvings are the traditional craft of the Seri and Yaqui indigenous peoples of the Northern Mexican state of Sonora. As a region that has both desert and ocean, the sculptural figures depict all the different types of creatures present in the Seri and Yaqui landscape. The craft has been passed down for generations, and older or more traditional pieces have a more rustic look and are completely handmade, while in more recent decades electric tools are sometimes used and the finished look is more polished.
