Sweet little rustic and festive barro negro (black clay) pot with cutout floral pattern. Signed by Doña Rosa* (or family members at the pottery studio) of San Bartolo, Coyotepec, Oaxaca. Found in Oregon.
This piece is approximately 4.25’’ tall.
*Doña Rosa was a ceramic artist in San Bartolo Coyotepec, Oaxaca credited during the 50s and 60s with transforming the traditional black clay pottery of the region into the collectible and highly regarded craft it is today. Specifically, she is credited with inventing the process of burnishing with quartz stone that now gives the pottery a pleasant luster that is not a glaze. Her family still runs a famous pottery studio in the ceramics town.
